Emile Louis Picault (1833-1915) A late 19th century French bronze figure of a warrior, the semi-naked youth holding oak and laurel branches, a sword in his right hand, his shield strapped to his back, the base strewn with wheat, entitled VIRTUTES CIVICAE Inscribed E. PICAULT The statue measures 44 inches tall. The base measures 11 inches long by 10 1/2 inches wide & the base height is 3 inches tall . Foundry circular dated stamp to the base : SALON ARTS DE BEAUS 1897. Emile Louis Picault was a French sculptor, best known for works depicting allegorical and patriotic subjects, and mythological heroes. Picault was a very prolific artist, producing sculptures in abundance over 500 models in total during his long sculpting career. Born on August 24 1833 in Paris France And Died on August 24 1915 in Paris France.
